TRANZENDENTAL DANSE OF JOI

by Jim Bonney - for concert band [6 '30"/ Grade 4]

score and musical examples coming soon!

I've become very fond of eschewing the creative confines of both "highbrow" and "lowbrow" music, and simply creating "nobrow" music. This piece is equally as inspired by hearing Beethoven in a concert hall as it is by the kids playing plastic buckets outside Wrigley Field. It has elements of jazz sophistication a la Pat Metheny and Herbie Hancock, as well as pop elements of Shania Twain and James Taylor. My hope was to create something uplifting and inspiring, in gratitude for the inspiration these artists have given me.

TranZendental Danse of Joi is dedicated to Nicki -- my inspiration for writing something so joyful.
